I posted earlier about setting up a new 393 gallon reef system 84 x 36 x 30.

I am looking for opinions on where to get the tank.

I want to stick with glass.

I have seen/heard about starfire or low iron glass.

Please give me your opinion / wish tank idea, who would build it, where to get it from, glass thickness, etc.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Glasstanks is cheaper but I hear that you sometimes get what you pay for. Sloppy silicone and the nastiest idiot for a store owner.

I think you mean GlassCages.

glasscages.com is who hes referring to. All my store tanks are made by them. So is my home tank. All the silicone is sloppy, and the guy is a total jerk. But, theyre sturdy and cheap.

My experience with them is about the same as Alex. Silicone was a little sloppy, but nothing I couldn't deal with. The stand and hood are nice, but for what they charge you should get more than "nice". Have Pete build your hood and stand.

The tank is fine. Well built and has euro-bracing so my center brace is smaller than most 100 gallon tanks.

Get it reef-ready (drilled and overflows). Do not buy their overflow covers. The slots are too small and Dan Parks can build you something better, probably for less.

Bang-for-the-buck, in glass tanks, I think they are the best price.

I have a 240g from glasscages and it is a solid tank that will probably outlive me...the silicone is an ok job but I bet it never leaks...I would rather have a dry floor than clean sliocone lines.

I don't think that Tom is a jerk at all you just got to understand that he only makes glass tanks...he has NO interest in what we do with them.

I understood what he was all about real quick...he just wants to know what size tank you want, where you want holes drilled , if you need a stand and canopy , where you want it shipped and your credit card number. He does not care to answer a bunch of questions about our hobby because he really does not know much about it.

For all you Seinfeld fans ( like me ) he is kind of like the Soup Nazi...just that instead of soup it is a tank that he makes. :D :D 8)

If I were to do it all over again the only thing that I would change is that I would of bought a bigger tank...oh well the story of my life. 8)
