I have a mille frag that fell on a hairy mushroom last night and it doesnt look that great. The mushroom was open and you could see the guts but its closed up some now. The bottom of the mille frag looks like the tissue has totally died. I cant see any polyps and there is no color. Is this going to heal back or kill the rest of the frag? If it expands I guess it would be best ot frag the good part.

From the sound of it (hard to tell w/o pics) the 'shroom will probably be OK (I hope!) and the mille may pull through also. Do you see actual *recession* of the tissue on the mille, or does the part that was touched by the 'shroom just not have polyp extention? If its just no polyp extention, I would keep a close eye on it. If you see recession continuing, then it's definitely time to frag. How big is the mille coral?

I am with wendy on this one. I would frag it immediately if it is showing any signs of tissue recession.

I've also heard some people have had success in stopping recession with a line of super glue above the recession line...of course this doesn't work very well at all if it's a bacterial thing, but it may work for something like what's happened here. On the other hand if it's a pretty colony rather than a frag, personally I don't know if I'd want to "experiment" and risk losing the whole thing...just thought I would throw that out there as an option. ;)

Well I've decided that it is receding and I'm going to frag it. It's a shame I really like it. It is royal blue and one of my favorite corals in there. Thanks for your help.

Well Aaron...if you end up losing it, LMK. We've got a small royal blue mille that we could frag at a later date (when it gets a little bigger). Good luck with the fragging, and keep us posted.

Good call Aaron. When this happens I watch the sps. If, after separating from the mushroom, it continues to have the white area grow, I frag it. If the white area stops grown right away, I usually don't frag it.

I have rarely had the white continue on and the acro will usually grow back. At least you have 7 frags now though.

I still have the base in there to see if it would heal so its good to here it will probably grow back.
