Couple of acrylic questions.

I have a 55gallon acrylic tank I'm using as fuge/sump. I want put a single sheet of acrylic in it to seperate it into two sections, one for the fuge, and the other for sump uses and external return pump.
I already have a sheet of acrylic that I can cut to fit. What is the glue I need to use (Weld-On#???) and where I can get it (small amount)?

I figured with such an easy project that really didn't have to be perfect since I can silicone around for water tightness I'd give it a shot myself for practice. If that doesn't work then I'll take it to the pros (Dan/Pete).

Bring it by and you can use mine ... and grab the pump.

Weldon 4 and either Allied or Regal.

Just use silicone. It wont be as permanant but you may want to move them or modify them someday (bigger/smaller fuge).

Thanks Pete, I can handle that. You gonna be around this evening, if so I can stop by and take care of both.

I'm with ratboy on this one, just silicone it in place. If it isn't holding any pressure, silicone will hold it just fine ... AND you can remove it later if needed. Weldon is forever!

Well it will have some pressure which is the reason for wanting to weld-on it in place. Water level one side will be about 8 inches high on the opposite side, and on that side it will be around 17 to 18 inches flowing over the top into the other side.

BTW this is a pretty scratched up acrylic tank that is only usable as a sump so being permanent isn't a problem. If needed I could just go in and cut it out with my dremel for it's use later if I wanted to move it.

Just started thinking I could just glue in place a couple of blocks to place the sheet against for pressure purposes and then silicone.

Hmmmm, now you guys got me to thinking.

We can do that too! I have scrap pieces. I will be here for the rest of the day.

Don't use silicone; it doesn't bond to acrylic. If you're not concerned with what it looks like and you can't get a good fit, you can use a bead of weldon #16 to hold it in place. The best thing for this is weldon #40, but you'll have trouble finding it and it's more of a PITA to use. If you can get an EXACT fit, weldon #4 will work great; maybe you can use that on the sides. Just put the baffle in place, turn the tank on it's side so the seam you want to weld is lying flat on your bench, shoot some #4 in there and lay a few books on top of the tank over the baffle to put some weight on it. If you want a really great joint, put a few pins (actually .008" wire, easily bought as a guitar string) underneath the baffle to create a gap, then shoot the solvent, then pull the wires. It's probably more trouble than it's worth for this. Give it a few minutes, then turn the tank over and do the other side. Then you can simply run a bead of #16 along the bottom and you're good to go.

Pete can do it whatever way you decide. He works for frags and Bud Light! Just don't ask him to make a pump manifold for you! LMAO :innocent

Make sure you have a thick enough piece of acrylic for the baffle also or it will just break. I'd use 3/8 for a baffle, that is just me though.

You can run a piece flat on the top to stiffen it! ;) That what the scraps are for.
