I looked at my fuge for the fisrt time in few days and all of my cheato had melted. there was just a glob of brown in the bottom of the fuge. i run my lights about 12 hours a day and at night it. it has a good flow in the tank but i have no idea what is going on. can someone give me a clue what to do and if someone has some let me know and can i get some more.

Melting <_< I don't have a clue, mine overgrows the fuge on a regular basis. I have some, and various other Macro ... and it's about time to do some pruning :)
Have you checked your parameters ... but honestly I canlt think of any parameter that would make it "melt"?

Explain "my nitrate is nuts" ... How high? How often & what volume of water changes are you doing? I would think any Macro would like a high Nitrate level anyway?
I got mine from MikeBoy too, and it is doing great!

I've noticed that I get a little bit of Chaeto die off from the stuff on top. I've got 65 watts of fluorescent about 4 inches from the chaeto so I'm thinking it may have been getting too much light, at least on top. I'll probably raise my fuge light a few inches. I think maybe it prefers less intense lighting?
That being said, it is still growing like crazy and I need to get rid of some. Let me know if you want any.

Jaded,
Tangs won't eat Chaeto. The only thing I know of that will eat it is a Foxface. That's what makes it a good in tank macro for systems without a fuge. It doesn't attach to rock or substrate and is easy to harvest or remove if no longer wanted. It also doesn't go sexual like most caulerpa species.

tell that to my new purple... hes gone through several clumps that I experimented with on the nori clip... I had him eating from my hand after about 5 minute in the tank.
no wonder hes so big!!!

That's great Jade. My purple will tear through grape caulerpa but leaves the chaeto to the Foxface.

OK,
Think I got enough people interested in the chaeto. Preference given to those starting up a fuge!
