I'm over in Virginia Beach, VA, and we were walking on the beach the other day. Some seaweed (which looked more like wet hay) was washing up on the shore so I invesigated and found all sorts of critters mixed in there. Would they be ok to put in my fuge? Some of them looked like critters I already have in there, but I though it would be cool to take some back with me on the plane.

I thought you had to have some kind of permit to do that? I dont know if you would be able to get by since they have x-rays...

Technically, you would have to check with the Virginia Fish & Game department and then also check on any regulations about transporting wildlife across state lines. Some states ban certain animals and even plants (including macro algae) from being brought across their borders.
Now with that being said, I'm sure it is possible to do it and not have any problems as no one would ever bother searching through all your stuff. I would only be worried about getting it on an airplane. A bag or canister of water with stuff floating in it might look kind of suspicious to an airport security screener! lol
