Mating Questions....

I just got a question I was looking at my perculas and one of them has turned a lot darker on top and I was wondering if they do this because they are mating?

no, they do it because they are maturing, their colors get darker and brighter as they grow.

Ill try to get some pictures but the one changing colors is doing a lot of hiding lately..... behind my rock work

If she starts to grow rapidly and starts digging, that's usually a pretty good sign that she has hit maturity. I'm going through that with my gold stripes now.

Yeah, if they are going to mate, you'll see her wagging her tail in the sand and other weird clown behavior, like cleaning rocks and stuff like that..

Just because she is reaching maturity doesn't mean she is going to be laying eggs anytime soon. It could be a couple more years. She's just in puberty now.
