Anyone ever use acrylic rods to build live rock structures? And do you know where to get them? We looked when we built our 100g but never found them, and when we upgrade to the 150 I would like to try it.

Some people use PVC to build structures, but IMO it looks bulky..

yeah not what I was going for. I want to drill the rock and attach the pieces using the rods and epoxy.

I've seen some info on the GARF website about using PVC to do the same thing you are describing. Its a heck of a lot cheaper than acrylic.

Check with Regal Plastics. I am sure they can help. Also I have lots of 3/8 or so Acrylic in differents sizes if anyone is interested in some PM me. I thought to do something with it & have failed to do so. It is Clear. They came from my wifes work when they went to all new stuff. Great stuff I could not let them toss it.

I've seen some PVC (or maybe it's white plastic rigid tubing) that's quite thin - 1/4" or 3/8" at Home Depot. Not in the PVC isle proper, but the one next to it with other plumbing stuff.

They should have it. I have tried Regal before, but unless you have an account with them, you would have to but the hole piece and it could be very expensive. Plastic supply will sell what you need and the length that you want.

I remember a MAAST member posting pics of his aquascaping, and he had used these acrylic rods...the rockwork looked *awesome*, but I can't for the life of me remember who it was! They had drilled holes in the rock, and used the rods to support/keep the rockwork from falling. I'm hoping that person will see this and post...it looked REALLY nice :D

There is also Allied which is a better bet than Regal or Plastic Supply.

What about a cut up plastic coat hanger? Works great and cheap!
