One thing you might try is to click on the Memberlist at the top of the screen next to FAQ and Search and then browse it to find people closer to your area. The list shows the persons location (if they enter it on their profile) and you can send a PM to those people. That might help get their attention. Hope that helps! :)

I'm in..... I belive fx300 is from brownsville. This would make life a lot easier for the Valley rats when needing parts, help, frags, help with ideas how to convince your wife your always had that Acan Lord frag ect.

If we pull together in the Valley guys and gals it would make attending MAAST meetings easier. Join in on group buys ect.

Get your name on the list so we can band together.

Count me in - Went by E-Aquatics and heard about some people bringing MAAST down to the RGV. I'm in McAllen so whenever you guys want to meet just PM me here or at RC. It may take me a while to respond here since I have already made my home at RC and don't get around to this site as often as I would like though...

Jerry there was a couple of guys in Harlingen that were trying to get a club started a few months back. They had a fish store downtown but the store closed a few weeks back and I did not get phones from them. Don't know how many people they had signed up.
There are a few of us in Brownsville that are still active but don't post much on this site. Keep us informed with your progress.

Sonny, I will. I know brownsville is kind of far from the McAllen area. Maybe sometimes we can half way. Do you know the name of the store in Harlinger? How many people do you know from Brownsville?

The name was the Aquarium Store but it is closed. I had a card but I don't know where I put it. I will ask Fabian he may know and I will also tell him of your plans because he knows some of the more active saltwater keepers around town. He posts on MAAST at times so maybe he will reply. I know some of the old timers that have been fooling around with fish for years but they are primarily freshwater with some salt mixed in. Like myself I have a 90 gallon reef with 1 French Angle a 90 with 4 or 5 crabs and a 120 with one molly. I have 100's and 100's of gallons capacity but don't maintain much anymore. Most are dry. The only reason I have the 90 and 120 running is I have a couple of friends that do live capture and I help them out with storage sometimes.

I will look in the phonebook and see if I can locate them. We need more members from all over the valley. So youre saying that you have tons of empty aquariums? How big? If so, are you selling them? It is nice for you to store fish for your friends.

Sonny, the first meeting went great. We decided to meet the third Saturday of the month. Is that a good time for you? How many people do you know from your area that would like to become members? RGV reefers, you can alsos use this thread to post anything that you want to communicate to the valley reefers. You can drop in and post to say his every now and then too.

Jerry, as far as the meeting times we might have to float them. And check here for the dates and set them before the regular MAAST meeting. They always have them set after the meetings so we would know way in advance. Or just set it to the first or last Sat. of the month. Might have to discuss this further to get everyones opinions. As far as the cameron County bunch we might need to move it arounda s well to meet half way some where in harlingen as few times. Things that need to be discussed int he next meeting.

Yup, thats true. We have about 3-4 members of cameron county and we want them to participate too. We will talk about this on our next mini meeting. Thanks Doug.

WEslaco sounds good. Does this place have the capacity for a power point presentation? What about a lobby?

When we are ready I'll be happy to host a meeting at a friend's restaruant on the ISLAND. TEXAS MOON will host just about anything we want if we bring our own equipment. The food is great, the peices are great, and I can even show off a few places I like to go to watch fish! even if we collect a few I can't see a problem.

Thanks Dillon, that sounds like a great place to host a meeting. WHere do you suggest as far as goind snorkeling and collecting critters?

The Jetties are by far the best place to become part of the food chain! :D I would see many diferent types of reef fish and all kinds of treasures down there. If you are looking for shrimp look no further than the bay area behind the convention center. the water is not deep and if you look you'll find all kinds of critters roaming the grass flatts.

awesome, I have been there and I was surprised at the clarity of the water. The bay is much more clearer than the ocean side. I want some peppermints.

Well, no garontees, but I have seen all kinds of wildlife in both areas! If we are collecting, I suggest the Bay. Also visiting the bait shops sometimes yields the best spots to look! At any rate, I will do any thing I can to get the GROUP into the Valley! I feel that anybody that lives close to the water should inspect the natural environment to help reproduce it in their home! I will dig up some others who will be happy to talk at any meeting held on THE ISLAND.

Awesome, I'm ready!!!!! I understand about behind the convention center. There's alot of scallops there. Ok, now at the jetties exactly where? By what? on which side.

gjuarez
Sun, 1st May 2005, 03:33 AM
I dont know where about in the jetties. SOmeone did point out that behind the convention center is a dangerous place since there is a lot of jet skis and boats in the area. Where else could we go?

Mykeytoe

Well, by the Convention Center, percautions can be taken! Has anyone tried calling the scuba shack and ask about any places worth checking out at the island?

There is also a place that offers scuba and snorkling by the Sea Ranch on the Island. I'll try to get a hold of them as well.
