Well hopefully I got rid of the last of my silver branch xenia. Removed and traded 2 large rocks today and will take the last tomorrow as well as the little pieces that i fragged from other rocks. Very cool stuff but just grows too fast. I am sure there are small pieces left somewhere that will spring up but I will deal with them when the time comes! Hey in my tank the stuff was pulsing like mad and the stalks while fairly long were more bushy in appearance. The tanks I have seen my frags in dont pulse at all and stretch way way out and look completly different. What causes them to stop pulsing?

I have read of several things. The impression I got was that we dont know exactly why they pulse and what causes them to stop pulsing. The one reason I remember (because this is what I observed in my tank) was caused by flow. In low flow areas they would pulse like crazy because that is supossed to cause more water to flow across them so they can absorb more nutrients out of the water. So if the flow is strong then there is no longer a need for them to pulse. When I had Xenia in my tank it would not pulse unless I turned of the power heads for feeding and water changes.

A spike or drop in pH will cause them to stop pulsing, shrivle up, and/or die also. That is how I finally got rid of mine.

The stalks stretch out when they dont have enough light. In my tank they are shorter and pulse like crazy but when i put them in the tanks at fin addict they dont pulse at all and the stalks get alot longer.
