Just wondering how I am measuring up on the death toll.

So far (in having a reef up for 1 year) my mortalities are:

maybe 5 to 10 hermit crabs (Something killed the first round of hermits in my tank)

1 Mithrax Crab (walked to close to the 'in' on a RIO. May he rest in peace)

1 Linkia Starfish (to ambitious for my tank size I think)

2 Acropora Frags (succumbed to the heat wave)

oh, and two sexy shrimp bit it in my nano because a co-worker charged with topping it off during my vacation would shake the desk, and replenish the salt water he knocked out with fresh water, well intentioned goober. :)

Sounds pretty good to me, I quit counting after funeral services for a couple of anemones

well, I consider my succes to date in large part to being a part of this community. For instance, When my halide fixture broke this weekend, Misti stepped up with a large power compact system, Sunhutch is going to lend me a 150 watt halide, without those, I would be looking at a large coral mortality in the coming weeks, thanks to them, I don't see that in my future.

You're doing better than I am. I've lost three fish, a sponge, numerous hermits & snails, and a couple of emeralds. I've tried to learn from every single fatality, but it's still a little mortifying to look back on those.

I guess you probably have to take into account the amount of purchasing as well, I have been mostly pretty slow, I only have a couple clowns and a couple of pj cardinals right now... it's time for a purple tang though...

I love purple tangs. I need to let the tank sit "as is" for a while before adding anything, but one is definitely on the list.

There is a *gorgeous*, plump and healthy purple tang at Austin Aquariums...pretty sure it's for sale if anyone in Austin was interested. Of course, that is one store that I will have to give kudos to - as far as the way they take care of their stock. I'm always impressed with how healthy their fish look. I'll tell ya, if we had already upgraded our tank size (as planned) I would've snatched that purple tang up in a SNAP...beautiful!

Oh, as far as our tank fatalities - just the clowns that most of you have read about already - the two from Aquatic Warehouse (I truly think something was wrong to begin with, as I wasn't the only one that had fatalities from that AW fish sale) and the one clown I lost to Brooklynella.

I hate losing livestock... right now in the switching of tanks, the only thing that is in danger is my purple millipora since it isn't gonig to have proper lighting for a couple of days, though, I know it will probably be ok in the long run, the fact I am not providing for it properly right now is just hacking me off...

Maybe I should look into replacing the ballast for my current halide setup.
