Barry at ClamsDirect would be your best bet. Let him know you are from MAAST in San Antonio / Austin area. He does know us and he has HEALTHY clams. He may be able to give you a good deal on that quantity.

pete~ has pmed me on this also. i can house about 20-25 clams max in my system for a few days only. this including the 10 or so that i want. i'm looking for and end the month mid feb order. which ever works best for everyone but no later then 2/20/05. i'm still working this out and will contact Berry and pete~ to see what the pricing and so forth will be. i'm in corpus christi. but travel to SA about twice a month and I'm willing to bring them up to a central location after they arrive to for pick up.

Ok... sounds good Troy. Count me in!
I'm not in a hurry to get them, so I am ok with the Mid-Late February order time, as well, or sooner if it works out that way, for that matter!

Just let me know, and I'll be in on the order for at least one. :-D

Thanks!

thanks for all the intrest. this will take place no sooner then the end of this month. this should give every one time to get the funds together and for me to iron out the pricing and so on.

pete~ if u can pm me your number that would be great. i'm gonna give Berry later this afternoon. will post info as soon as i get it.

clam choices are gonna be narrowed down to 3-4" maxima's and crocea's. if anyone is looking for anything else it's gonna be by request and if the supplier has it in stock. we won't hold the order just for one item.
no priceing info as of yet. but the more people we can get on the buy the better the price. so spread the word.
with other people willing to house clams when they come in, we can make a larger order.

so please let me know what u are looking for and well start a count.

thanks

If you don't get enough interest, check out the post in the Buy/sell section of the MARSH website. There is someone there in Houston that is putting together a big order as well.

I would be interested in a 3"-4" Squamosa myself depending on price.

Thanks Troy.

I'll probably get 1 corcea or maxima if the order isn't until Feb. I have to make sure I'm moved and have my tank setup.

When you get ready, check with us also we may be interested in ordering that many clams at a good rate. Most of the LFS do not carry many clams so I don't think we'd be stepping on any of our wholesale accounts toes.

TroyPham
Wed, 12th Jan 2005, 07:44 PM
Tim, this order is open to lfs too. if any of them are willing to step up and place the order, give everyone a good price, and make a little on it i'm not against it. maybe $5. over their cost plus shipping would be fair. with as much intrest as i've been getting. it's looking like over 20 clams are to be ordered. i'm willing to work with anyone. as long as we get quality items.

o' and i guess i'll pay my dues so i can be come an official memeber.. hehe

I have talked with Berry from ClamsDircet and he has told me that there is no discount on price. because he is a retail operation and not a wholesale operation. he stated that he had no problems selling clams at the current internet market price there would be little to no gain for him to lower his price for a large order. the only thing that he could offer use was a discounted shipping fee. which would not translate to much savings to use. i'm still working with ~pete~ at this time to get a group buy in place and have contacted other venders to see if any such thing can be done. at this time i'm still waiting for ~pete~ to get back on pricing and stock.( which i'm sure will change from day to day)

please, if u are intrested in this order we will start taking a firm head(clam) count soon so the wholesaler can give us a price. i know everyone's purchase is going to be based on price. but we still want to get an idea of who is wanting what so we can get a narrowed down cost per. clam.

thanks

I am definately interested, I have been wanting a black and purple maxima for quite a while, like jenn, I want the super vibrant little suckers (I think we would all probably like that.) If it ends up that we are ordering more than you can hold Troy, why not split shipping to each city?

Jenn

I don't have a preference where they come from, as long as they are a reputable dealer.

I check Barry's site weekly, but it seems like the best are always sold.

Whats the difference? They all come from the ocean ... and Barry gets them from a wholesaler anyway, probably one in the same. I received a gorgeous blue maxima from Barry and after inspection at arrival found pyramid snails on it. So again .... whats the difference?

We all have our preferences. No big deal.

The last update I got from Barry he was importing the clams directly. Which means they do not sit in any wholesaler's tank. His holding tanks (system) is second to none!

well.. i still plan on ordering. i'm sure we will still get quality clams. again, this is a group buy and we may not get exactly what we want. out of the 10 i want. i'm only planning on keeping 5-6. the rest will be sold or traded. i use this idea because i want to select the best of the bunch. and the only way with clams to do that is if u over order. i'm getting 2 realy nice clams from Dr. Minh in a trade already. but i'm still gonna order 10. and jim is right Berry does get them straight from the supplier and has chance to hand select. but that doesn't mean that we will get second grade clams. they limit his selection so it's fair to the whole salers and lfs.

we can split the shippment if needed. but i will make a special trip to SA to bring the clams up to make it easyer.

::pete::
Fri, 14th Jan 2005, 10:30 PM
Great point Jim and I I agree that the holding process is as important as the rest of it. I would think that Walt Smith also has a holding tank that is second to none.

Misti ... I wasnt trying to make it a big deal and I can relate to your preferences!

~pete~, have u got'n any info. yet?

TroyPham
Fri, 21st Jan 2005, 11:21 AM
update!!!! looks like clam prices will be from 30-40 dollar range fore 2-3" maximas. we do not have an exact price because of the number of clams wanted will determing shipping cost. so please. if u want some let us know now. they will be shipped to SA not to me in CC. it should make it easier for everyone to pick up.
after we get a firm head count we will give u a better price quote. i don't think they will go over $40
crocea's in the same price range.

thanks for the intrest.

Troy, couple things:

1) looks like we many of us are about to jump on a zen reef order, is this neccissarilyhappening in the very near future?
2) Who are we ordernig from (wondering if they have types that we can give numbers for, like barry does.)

Thanks for organizing this.

hey ram.. are u asking the order time to help others that have made an order with zen to rebuild funds? i can push back the order if needed. but i would realy like it to take place around the 10th. from what pete has told me. a new clam shippment will be in this wensday.

Ram_Puppy
Fri, 21st Jan 2005, 08:35 PM
hmmm, could have sworn I posted this earlier...

Yes, i was wondering about time to allow peopelt o rebuild their funds (if need be) but I am not sure that anyone does, and if they are getting in a new shipment, it makes sense to go for it as rapidly as possible to get the best selection of clams.

I was also wondering about description, I know I want a T. Maxima w/ that incredible electric purple and black mantle, but there are a few different 'forms' as far as how those colors are distributed, and I don't know how to describe that, are we going to get to see pictures before we order or what?

::pete::
Fri, 21st Jan 2005, 08:45 PM
I cant show you pictures of each clam because its not something I have in stock, but I can post a picture that will show what an average order looks like. To pin point something like this down is like saying your frag will be 1 and 5/8" tall with 3 branches measuring 1.5 inches.

The clams will be healty and gauranteed and will come from a reliable source that Im sure someone has purchased from (not knowing) as Im not the only one getting livestok from them. Obviously the bigger the order the better the deal ... I hope that helps.

Are clams ususally best for a tank that has been set up for a year or better?
I have heard this, but was just wondering.
Assuming water conditions are optimal and lighting is suffiecent for housing clams.

Ram_Puppy
Mon, 24th Jan 2005, 10:03 PM
MIke, I think as long as the tank is stable, and you are ready to try one, you can give it a try. If memory serves, Troy just built a really cool clam tank, no way has it matured for a year yet (am I getting you confused with someone else troy?), as long as you meet the animals requirements, and keep a stable tank, you should be ok.

Jenn
Mon, 24th Jan 2005, 10:57 PM
I sure would like to find one of those "clam tanks". Clams Direct used to carry them, but I haven't seen them in a while.

Pete, I will take one if you can get it as close to the one you have pic'd on page 2 "clam2.jpg" as possible....

Troy,

RCA just got in a very nice selection of clams and he is giving MAAST members a 15% discount. Might be a good time to *cough* up the membership dues and take advantage of this great offer. Also, this way you get to see what you are getting before you take it home.
