Was wondering about "out of tank" protein skimmers? I don't mean hangon type skimmers just skimmers I can plumb some tubing to outside the tank. My reason is my predator tank which has a snowflake eel (and my late Voltain lionfish - I miss him - ) are pretty exploratory and would find and easy out with a hangon protein skimmer.

At present don't have a real place for a sump, so was just looking for a good proein skimmer I can run outside of the tank, and run the hoses back into the take.

The tank currently has a MJ 600 (~250gph flow) and a Eclipse 3 ( biowheel filter (I know most hate biowheels but wanted a closed tank so the inhabitants wouldn't get out) the Eclipse I think is rated at ~ 150-200 gph).

Having a fairly big problem with cyano (red slime I think its also called) algae and I think the protein skimmer would do alot to help this out (besides water changes I know).

So first what are some good "out of tank" protein skimmers, and whats the best way to set them up without using a hangon or in-sump model???

Thanks

Brian
