I have a combination of a 70w MH and 150w of VHO on my 15g and couldnt be happier. I dont really like PC's. Might not want to ask your GF, she came to the meeting, thats enough! You can find pretty good prices on MH/VHO fixtures on e-bay. Check it out.

Some websites (e.g www.premiumaquatics.com) let you add items to a "Gift List" and send your family a link to the site and your "Gift Code" - they can just order it on-line and have it delivered directly to your home!

Now THAT's the spirit of Christmas :-D :-D :-D

2 X 250 watt 10K MH and 2 X 48 or 46.5" VHO super actinics. That'll give you plenty of light for sps or anything else.

The reason I have the canopy is because its the matching canopy for the stand that i have. The bad thng about it its that it doesnt leave that much distance apart from the water surface. Is there a way to buy a fixture, or fixtures that have fans already. im not very experienced in the MH, VHO..world, since i always had PCs, i never did worry about learning until now...The PCs I have have fans so...im wondering if they sell MH/VHO lights that have them aswell...

yeah, fans would have to be a must...do you think the 8 in. clearance would be ok?...with fans and all?

You could also buy 2 pendant lights and hang them down to your canopy and cut 2 holes in the top. I have seen this done before, and it works fine. But not as clean. I have also seen people attach 1x8's to the bottom of their canopy and restain the whole thing to give extra height. Again, there is a visible seam but it does the job.
The problem is that you need 10" of clearance from the bottom of the lamps to the water. So if the retros take 5" then the canopy needs to be 16-20" tall to accomodate.
