I am making the stand for the 180 out of steel and due to the floor being not perfectly level in the garage I am thinking ... 3/4" bolts (6 1@ each leg) to level it out.

We walk in and out of buildings everyday put together with bolts that have tons above them so this should be fine ... yes? Maybe a 1/4" plate welded to the bolt head too.

Pete, I've got a 180 stand that needs a new home, just pick up or possibly help me out with gas money and I can deliver to you. Probably not what you are looking for from the sounds of that project though.

Pete, I'm not picturing the problem very well? When you say Steel, do you mean like heavy duty angle iron welded together, now that's a man's stand :o

If so, why not let the weight of the tank & water hold it in place. After the tank is on, a few shims here & there under the legs should be sufficient to get it level. Then let the weight of the water keep it in place ... no need for the bolts?

The bolts are the shims. Just like on a fridge.

The welder suggested it and said there would be no problem as far as weight was concerned. Thats why I mentioned the plates to distribute it a little better. For example instead of the 1" head on the bolt maybe weld a 3"x3" 1/4" plate to help.

We used heavy duty screw type levelers for our stands and they have worked just fine. The stands are 8' long with 4 levelers on each end and two in the center. The heaviest stand is holding 190 gallons and the levelers are 3/8". They did rust up though so I would coat the bolts with a teflon lubricant or may just vaseline would work.

Thanks Richard thats what I was hoping to hear. He is going to use 3/4" because I was worried.

I like to plate idea on the bolt, but instead of making a square plate could you make circle plates? That way you dont have a corner sticking out on one side and not on the other.....maybe thats just me and my complex with things having to be symetrical.LOL

Duh ... don't I feel stupid

I don't think the metal plate buys you much? The bolt threads are still supporting all the weight!
