I was doing some "customizations" on my 55 gal. and the center support on top broke. Of course the glass bowed immediately  . Is this something I should worry about or will the tank maintain its structure as is? This tank is a Wal-Mart tank and is not the thickest glass out there.

Yea, I would be concerned. I would replace it as soon as possible.

Yes I would replace as soon as possible. But in the mean time drain some of the water from the tank to relieve stress on the glass. If you have bar clamp available you can use that temporarily to replace the brace.

Comon, support your local dealers. Wal Mart will never carry reef stuff. Support the guys that do.

Haha, yeah it was my first tank (3 yrs old) and I'm not a reefer yet. It holds lake tanganyka cichlids. I was introduced to this site and think you guys are great, plus I've been learning about reefing by all the posts. Can't really devot the funds at this point in my life, so I keep my cichilds. But I can always count on someone in here to give me expert fish/tank advise. I was actually gonna buy a 125 gal. for Christmas and decided to just buy one now (after a brief discussion with the boss...my girlfriend). So if anyone can save me some money on a 125 I am in the market. PM'd a person on this site selling several different tanks. Hope he comes through because I would like one by later today.

I just get a new (to me) hood and stand from WKOPPLIN like two weeks ago too :? .

Is it a hood for a 55? If you upgrade your tank and dont need the hood anymore let me know.

I would absolutely drain several inches off the tank before leaving for Thanksgiving. The bar clamp idea is good, EXCEPT it's risky putting it on while the tank is bowed out. You'd want to drain the tank, put the clamp on without squeezing the tank, use a couple to decent size pieces of wood to spread out the clamp pressure, then refill the tank. That should hold you until you get back.

Mike - I will let you know about the hood. The only thing is that the stand and the hood are made to match perfect. If I do sell it I would prefer to let them both go at the same price I bought them $49.95 or $50.00 with tax.
