i bought a candy cane coral about two months ago and noticed it had a few small anenome's or something that looks like small grey anenome's on it. last week i noticed that these creatures had multiplied and were harming some of my other corals. i then did what all idiots would do and tried to remove them with sissors and ended up cutting a few of them to pieces. now its like the sorcerers apprentis, these things are multiplying beyond control. is there anything i can do to stop this?

it kinda sounds like aptasia. where did you get it? if you got it from aquatic warehouse they have been having some aptasia problems by the looks of their tanks. I would suggest a copperband butterfly (if your tank is big enough) and /or a few peppermint shrimp. depending on how many there are you might want to try squirting joes juice on them0. squirting boiling water on them works, can probably kill other fish , and harm some other corals... I have some aptasia (i can't see them but i found two the other day), i used the boiling water method and now they are gone. but I'm afraid they spread so I picked up a peppermint shrimp from the lfs, and I hope he will take care of any other stray ones the will pop up, and till they eventually are all whiped out. all these solutions are only good if it is aptasia. Do you think you can post a pic? if you need any more help pm me.

Those things are Aptasia. There are a few things you can do. Peppermints Shrimp, Copper Banded Butterfly, their is a nudi branch that eats them (Instar is probably the guy to talk to for these), and you have Joes juice. I have experience with Peppermints and Joes Juice. Peppermints will either eat it all up or not touch it. Joes Juice works well also. For awhile I had half a dozen or so show up everyday. I added a peppermint shrimp to my tank and used joes juice and now I see about 1 a month, and the peppermint is no longer in there.

Try the nudibranchs from Instar.

will the peppermint shrimps or nudibranchs harm other anenomes, shrimp, fish or corals?

no they will not. the peppermints will eat small aptasia and the nudis will eat them all. they have to be they right king though. what city do you live in? Larry, Instar, is coming over to my house tomorrow and he could bring them to my house for you to pick up. He lives way out in BFE. Send him a PM and tell him what I said. BTW, I live in north central SA.

There is no such place as BFE. I met an egyption Colonel once and I asked him about it. Just a good thing he had a sense of humor.
