Question,
I would like to add a Tang to my 110 reef. The problem I may have though is that I already have yellow tang that I bought from joshua 5 months ago.

I do have plenty of rock work for hiding but, I don't know if my tang will like the new additions. If I am able to add some tangs should they be the same size or can I get smaller ones? The rule of thumb when I ran FO was make sure they were all the same size.

My tang is not aggressive with my school of Chromis, Clowns, or Goby, will this be different because a Tang is added?

If it is a question of what Tangs I am adding. I would like to add a Hippo Tang and a Powder Blue.

I have not experienced any problems adding Tangs of differing types (Genus'?). The Hippo, if small, will probably hide, at least mine did. For what its worth I always make sure mine are well fed before adding anything - I don't know if its helps but I do it anyway.

It's possible, if they cause too much problems you can try rearanging your rock work. This sometimes makes the existing tang less agressive since it's home has been changed.

It worked for me. I added a Poweder Blue tang to my tank on Monday. Yesterday afternoon I rearranged my rock work and it did settle down the sparring with the Purple tang I already had. They still flare at each other a little bit, but the fighting seems to have died down.

DO NOT ADD A YELLOW if you allready have one. i did that and he all most died, so i took him out and bought two more bigger yellows. then i put all three in at the same time and the old yellow did'nt know what to do. picking on each other for a few hours then every one settled down. that was five months ago and all are fine. last month i added a large powder blue with no problem. now i have 4 yellows. 1 purple and 1 large powder blue. all getting along.

I added a hippo after I had a yellow in there, they were both about 4"-5" long. There was a lot of fighting in the biggining. I had to move the yellow into a 10G fuge for a couple of weeks to give the hippo a chance to catch his breath and get used to the tank. When I put the yellow back in there, he went back to harrasing the hippo. eventually they settled down and both are doing well now. I've heard people say use egg crate to devide a small section of the tank and place the more agressive guy (the established one ) there and let him get used to the fact that the new guy is swimming arround in the tank.

One other thing, if you are planning on adding the hippo and powder blue, it might be better to add both at the same time if your filter can handle it. That could reduce aggression and you don't have to go through the pain twice. If you have to add them one at a time, add the powder blue last since he is the more agressive one.
