mangrove question

anyone know if mangroves are able to come back if i cut it half way down the stalk and plant the roots in a substrate? my mangroves are too tall for the new setup but id like to keep them even though none of them have leaves i thought theyd be neat in my little 5.5 if i cut them down.

as I understand it, all mangroves are very sensetive to cutting...
