What is afford? Will you be DIY?

I would alter it to dump in to a collection cup. Looks like it should work. Let us know how hard it is to build and if it really works.

Yes, I prefer DIY projects(It more fun than unpacking a box and tossing it on). I want to stay under $100.

i would suggest putting an airstone inside the skimmer rather than drilling a hole in the powerhead, ive got a modified seaclone that when i use the hole in the power head it makes alot of noise as it sucks in the air. i think it works much better using the airstone.

I also have another question. I have this acrylic DAS thing(17.5in x 4in x 22in) that came with the tank. It has a skimmer in it, is this worth using? Where can I find some info on these things? It has an overflow thing and several chambers. I googled it, but did not find much, most was not in English.

Hi Yano,

Sounds like you have a DAS aquarium. (Dutch Aquarium Systems - Waxahachie, TX - tel. 972-938-2020) One of the styles they make has built in saltwater filtration, including an airstone driven protein skimmer.

Is it worth using? IMO any skimmer is better than no skimmer. The DAS system requires more adjustment than some, but if it is already in the tank then the price was right.

You might give DAS a call and see if they will send you some info on the tank.

HTH.

Well the tank itself is Oceanic, and the DAS thing is not attached in anway to the tank (its currently sitting right next to me on the floor.) If you can get any info for me that would be great.

put the skimmer in your sump and scrap that box.
