IM looking in my tank at night when i notice some alge (or what i thought
was alge) growing on one of my show piece sps corals.
so i start thinking ....RO/DI unit ??...did something die??? did .....
and then all of a sudden the whole thing starts to MOVE!!! its about the size of a quarter not including the legs which are about 1 in long.
maybe someone can help me ident this thing...
i cant get a picture right now but will try as soon as i can.
It looks like a crab but has no claws is really hairy and almost has the body of an arrow crab just not as pronounced and has two wierd
looking things sticking out of its head that look like tiny baseball bats.
but remember this thing is covered in hair not like a decorator crab but like the fuzzy stuff ya get off of new carpet. (Nylon fibers)
Thanks
Robert
as soon as he gives me a chance ill take a picture

... Never seen a fuzzy carpet crap so not sure what one is.

That's what my dogs do after eating fuzzies off the carpet

Don't put these into your reef tank, they clog up the overfow :o

R.Allard - you got that thing from me. It eats algae and it does have two tiny little pincher legs up front. That long double spike on its head makes me think it in the decorator family as does the fact it always seems to have some kind of algae growing on and in its hair. I've seen it covered in cyano, bubble and green algaes. I've watched it many times and it eats nothing but algae. It does climb up on the coral now and then, but, I've never seen it graze on any of them. I never saw it climb on the pipe organ, just the stoneys. It did me a great service keeping hair and various simple algaes from between the corals. Its so ugly you can't help but love it, right? (If you tire of it, I'll take it back.) I've had it since it was a tiny little speck so I guess you could call it "tank raised"? I have no idea if it came from Port Aransas or on a coral from some tropical island? I'm thinking it came from Figi because of the time it appeared. Its one of the few crabs to survive the red bug treatment.

If you didn't get anything large enough for a hitchhiker like that from me, then we have two of them. In that case, lets get them together and see if they make more? I like algae eaters like that!
