Black Sand

I'm setting up my new 46G tank and I am trying to decide on what to use for my sand bed. I really like the look of the black and white mixture of live sand that Agra-Alive sells. I'm cycling my tank with live rock so I'm thinking is there some way to acheive that same black and white look in the sand without the expense of the Agra-Alive live sand product?
I'm also wanting to keep the grain size small enough for sand sifting critters.
