Thanks for the kind words. I'm really heartbroken over my tank right now. I can't seem to eliminate all this "junk" floating in the water column. Can't seem to figure out if it is bubbles or fine sand. Either way it is killing me. It really ruins the whole look. Especially with the new lights..makes it twice as obvious. :(

PeeJ,
Try using a filter bag on your overflow to remove the fine solids. I have several that my wife made me from polypropylene fabric. Basically, they are just a large sock shaped bag about 12-15" long. I just shove the ends of overflow hoses into one of these filters and it removes 90% of the solids. I change them out once a week when I do my routine maintenance. I soak them in bleach for a day or two and then in vinegar if they have a lot of sand or lime build up in them. Its a simple way to help water clarity and it helps a lot in exporting nutrients.

good idea...thanks. Ijust hope that takes care of it. I fear that my powerheads just might be spitting bubbles back into the water.

PJ - if it's flock and detritus in the water go get one of those Aquaclear powerheads (something like a 802 would be best) and the attachment for polishing the water. They work rewally well for getting some of the suspended matter out - you can also use plain old filter floss in your sump / overflows / filter - just remember to clean/change it regularly.
Nice tuskfish btw.
