i stop in today at forever pets on basse road and toy the owner told me he was selling oceanic salt 200gal bucket for 44.99. i have'nt seen it that low before. he also told me that he would sell to maast members at 10% off on every thing else. jason that was working at alamo is now working there. jason said he can do special orders if you are looking for somthing special. the 10% off is worth going. if any one has seen salt cheaper than that please tell me.

Dan, sorry to tell you that $45 for the 200g bucket is a regular price at pretty much any store other than Alamo. I believe Oceanic set the pricing guidelines as it has been standard at all the places I have been to (Aquatic Warehouse, Austin Aquariums, Aquatek, Forever Pets, and more). For some reason Alamo thinks buying it in their store makes it worth $55.

From the people I have talked to in the business, Oceanic's original pricing was a introductory/marketing plan to get people to try it and get hooked on using it, especially with IO changing sizes and not prices. And, after some time period Oceanic would soon increase the prices.
Dan - As for AW, I'm sure they raised the price due to an increase in their cost. They are also doing some different things/specials with low (if any) profit margins so they have to make up for it on other things. Can't beat the deal on powerheads they have. I got 6 MaxiJet 1200s for $95! Really though, with any type of retail business, stores will always be cheaper on some things and higher on others. Just the way it is.
Sherri - Definately give CB a call on the Kent. I haven't been in there in awhile, but they always had their salt at good prices on Kent and IO.

Go to Petsmart online and print the page for the 200 gal salt. They will sell you the salt in the store with this page at the same price. $35.99
their store price is 55.00
You'll NEVER beat this price. I do it about 2 times a month.

Yeah, that stinks they don't sell it online. I have seen the smaller containers of Oceanic salt in the stores, but never the 200g. They still stick with the I/O even though they carry Oceanic tanks.
