Was trying to find out more info on how hardy are the Linkia Starfish...the blue, red & purple. Anyone know anything about them? Also, can't find that much info on the Harlequin Serpent Starfish either.

I searched for a month and never really found anything. I do know the blues are the hardest to keep. The red, orange, and burgundy are easier. I think they depleat their food supply then slowly die. I've had a burgundy one for about a year. He seems to get weaker everyday. He did real good for about 6 months. He keeps getting darker too, which I'm guessing is diet related.

PM oceancube on the harlequin. He had i think 9 or 10 in his 50.

According to Dr. Ron no one has thoroughly studied their diets (bacteria is supposedly used as an excuse for not knowing lol), which means we have no idea what they actually feed on. Most Linkia (all color forms) that actually do make it through shipping, perish from starvation within several months.

i've always wanted one, but heard they are all very hard to keep, so i never wanted to take the chance!

Thanks everybody...BTW, great info Pete. Outstanding - hope he continues to do well. I thought they might be a bit difficult.

I bought one once when I was new in the hobby and didn't know any better. It looked good when I brought it home. When I introduced it to the tank it crawled off into the rock, never to be seen again.

I have both a maroon and a green Linckia Multiflora . Have had them both over a year and they've been through a tank move ok. Not sure what they are eating but they green is regenerating a lost arm - I do have a lot of mature live rock in the tank.

I have very mature LR in my tank....apparently that is a must. BTW....anyone have some info on Harlequin Serpent Starfish?? :D
