I'll be getting new bulbs soon, and am trying to decide between XM 20K's with 6500K vho's or the opposite XM 10K's with URI actinics.
Im mainly wondering if 220 URI VHO's are enough to "blue up" the 10K's, or if I should stick with the 20K's

I am running 250w ushio 10k's with URI actinics one one, and 250w AB with phillips PC actinics on the other. I was going to run the 250w DE xm but the electronic ballast won't fire the xm.

Based on what I've seen between the ushio and XM 10ks, the color would be very similar, but significantly more intensity with the XMs. They might be a little less yellow thatn the ushios as well. I bet XM10ks with vho actnics would look great; next time I change bulbs, that's the set up I'll be using, although it'll be 250s.

Don't forget m58 ballast not electronic if you use the DE's.

Actually, I should have said that I'll be running two 400W'ers and 220vho. So, does this still sound like enough Actinic action?
JimD, How would you describe the look of your tank, and/or can I swing by some time and look at it?

No way is 220w of actinic enough to offset the intensity of 800 watts of 10k XM's. If I was to do it over, (and probably will) Id most likely use 250 watters just for that reason. My tank is very white, and I mean powerfull white, with a hint of blue. I think it looks pretty awesome, however, it can always look better....
Youre more than welcome to come by and check it out before you make a decision.. Just let me know....
