well i have read and seen many posts on the dreaded snail in the one inch hole. well i never did anything about it. tuesday morning at 600 am i wake up to crackling electricity i run into my fish room and i am standing in water. after i jump back becasue i am barefooted. the water is poring over the top, i run and turn off the pump then after i return to the smoke field room i find my power cord to labtop fried into carpet. i lost about 50 gallons. So the moral to this story is if it happens to your peers it will eventually happen to me.

so what is the remedy for this problem, thanks

Make a small screen box and place over it, or you can make a small round screen tube with a screened end and stick it into the 1" bulkhead. This will give you more area and be harder to get pluged. BUT you have to keep it cleared of debris.

I use at least two drains in case something gets in one. I make one pipe taller than the other so if the first gets clogged it will only fill to the second. Does that make any sense? I also screen my overflow box and put strainers on the pipes themselves. But, who am I. I've always known these things but for one reason or another I end up leaving the strainers off or something like that and it has still happened to me when the tank was most vulnerable.

MY TANK IS DRILLED SO I CANT ADD ANOTHER HOLE TO THE OVERFLOW BOX. I AM THINKING OF CUTTING SLITS IN MY RISER PIPE TO THE TOP AND THEN DRILLING HOLES WITH A CAP ON TEH END
