When Can I Use My Canopy?

Well, I finally finished my canopy. Stain, polyurethane coating, and lights. How long do I have to wait till I can actually use my lights over my tank? I think I read somewhere on here that I should wait a few days after putting that coating or maybe I dreamt it... Does anybody know how long I should wait?

I just added on to my canpy a couple of weeks ago. I started using it once the paint was dry, not sure if this is correct or not but I haven't had any problems.
