Just curious what you guys think.

Recently purchased a 45G breeder tank which will be turned into a full reef setup.

36" long x 18" deep

There is a small 5-6" glass center brace.

Any heat issues Josh?

The room the tank will be in isn't the greatest as far as ventilation goes. Leave the door open, the room gets nice and chilly... keep the door shut for 15 minutes and it's warm and comfy.

:-P

Oh, you didn't tell me about the centerbrace. In that case, go with the two 175W mogules or, if you got some cash to burn, get 150W HQI mini pendents. That would be way cool. It's fun spending someone else's money...

If you want to go with mogules and really want to save some bucks, you could find raw ballasts for $45 at hellolights; $30 for reflector/socket; $65 ushio bulb, maybe $10 for some wire and a box, and you've got a dual set up for $300. Probably each mini pendent would be about $300.

You're not getting rid of the big tank are ya?

Not likely! ;)

I'm just giving up the hopes of turning it into a full out reef anytime soon...

I am going to run 2 10000K and 1 03 actinic VHOs on my 40g. It is the same footprint and 17" high. It is the bottom tank in my stand, see my gallery. I don't have the new hood built yet but it should be nice.

I am using the tank for mushrooms and zoos.

2/250w HQI/DE halides work great on that with a couple 65w pc actinics. I am useing those in my frag tank.
