What size tank? What type of lighting? PC, MH, VHO ?

thanks josh. its 520 pc. was just thinkin about gettin a couple clams and wanted to afirm which would do well in my tank

sqaumy, derasa, hippopus are probably your only realistic choices. Gigas gets to big, crocea and max need more light.

I would go with a derasa personally. The one I got from Jim back in November has already put on a little over 1/2" of shell growth, maybe more! They are kind of pretty too in their own way.

Should a Gigas be kept under pc's and how big do they get?

Gigas are usually shallow and get hit with tons of light. MH for those as far as I know. They can grow 4 feet across.

In clams it's the intensity of the wattage. For derasa or squamosa or hippoppus, they are lesser lighting needy and the crocea and maxima's are the highest of the lighting needy clams.
Did anyone see the gigas in the Marine and Fish 2004 Annual magazine?? They said it's in the Solomon Islands and is 40" from end to end. Awesome clam...
