Well...I think I'm losing my Rose Bubble Tip Anemone. I have no other problems in the tank AT ALL. I noticed yesterday that there were only about 8 tenacles enlarged, so I picked him up and his whole base is gone...like disingrated. He is a ring now. The clowns are still hosting, but there is no mouth. Do I need to get him out? Is there no hope once they do this? Do they regenerate maybe????

When we had our lasting meeting at Alex's, that is when I noticed he wasn't accepting food as well, and wouldn't stay attached to the rocks. He has been staying on the left side on my tank for a while on the glass (which is when clowns started hosting) and then kinda wedged between rock & glass...

 What a drag....Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, this happened to me a few weeks ago. I threw out after 10 days of watching him go. Just couldn't hang in there anymore. Got a LTA and the maroon loves it.

Sorry to hear the bad news. Do you run a refugium? I have been trying everything to get mine to split. They have grown twice the size, but no split yet. Let me know if you want another one and when these split I'll let you know.

I am sorry to hear that.
I got my Rose Anemone about the same time. Mine disappeared about 6 weeks ago, and I found it in 4 small pieces in my overflow about a month ago. I put 3 in my big tank, and one in my nano. 2 out of 3 in the big tank didn't make it. The last one in the big tank is doing fine, one of my clowns went to it. The one in the nano is doing great. It grew bigger, however, it is not taking any food. I am not sure how it is growing without food.

Yeah Tim...I would if it does. Thanks so much. Guess I better get it out. My clowns are trying to protect it everytime I put my hands in. I do have a refugium - everything is normal. It got huge also Tim- enough to where I thought it was going to split. But it wouldn't stay attached to anything till it took to the glass where the clowns started hosting. And it was aggressively taking food. Then about 2-3 weeks ago, it wouldn't hold on to anything I fed it and the cleaner shrimp would come & steal it.

Even if I put what is left of it my my quarantine tank, do you think there is a possibility SOMETHING could happen to rejuvenate it? Or am I just dreaming?! This was the ultimate for me...a rose with blk/wht clowns hosting...a bit of heaven. Really disappointing. Thanks everybody.

Sherri,
Sorry to hear about the Rose. Does it still have it's color?

Sherri, you got that anemone from the last group order from Alvin right? Id be curious if anyone else is having problems with anemones from that same order or if yours is an isolated issue. Its never easy losing a loved one.

Mine is from Alvin through Jim Norris
It doesn't like the silver side I had been feeding it. My false percula clown fish never host in the rose.
1) My rose would attach to something for a little bit
2) It would then let go( either by walking around, or bloating it foot up and float around) and wonder around the tanks
3) It traverse back and forth for months. It usually acts ****y when it's moving around.
4) Several months later, I found it in mushes
5) It didn't bleach and the rose color is still there
6) I left it in the tank since some peoples think there rose could recover
7) It never did
Around this same time my tank hit about 89F b/c the AC trip the breaker box and shut down. The A/C was off for a couple of days b4 I realized what had happened.
Everything survived except for the rose and a few snails. I don't know if it's b/c of the heat, the rose being shredded up by the power head, or what. I had trouble with bubble tip b4, but at least they would bleach b4 getting mushy.

Next time around (if there is such a next time,) I'll get a tomatoe clown to pair up with the rose. The last tomatoe clown I bought from Tim was very attached to the anemone and would feed it and protect it. These percula clown seems to be a hit and miss when it come to hosting in and feeding the bubble tip anemone.
From experience if you're going to keep a bubble tip anemone, you should keep it in a tank by itself b/c bubble tip have a tendency to wonder around the tank if they are not happy.

Sorry to hear that  . I lost my Green carpet about 3 wks ago, it detatched and moved around for about a day and then just went to mush, my others are all doing fine. LTA is about the size of a dinner plate

I was going to buy that $150 LTA & Maroon pairs, but the seller told me that LTA need a DSB to sink it foot in. Mine current 29G only have about 1 inch of southdown in it so I didn't buy it. Plus paired clown fishes has been known to kill the other after they has been moved around.

I ordered one 2 weeks before the group order. At the time, I didn't have any clown. It was moving all around the tank. Like I said above, it got into the overflow... The one in the big tank is fine. I got a few clowns a couple weeks ago from someone. One of the maroons is taking care of it. It has been staying at the same place since the maroon around. However, it hasn't grown much. It is under some live rocks and hard to see.
The one in my nano has grown a lot. My nano doesn't have any fish in it. It hasn't stopped moving since I put it in about a month ago. The interesting part is that it doesn't take any food that I give it. Yet, it has grown twice since I got it out of my overflow. Don't understand it.

I have had several LTA. They keep splitting. I can't recall seeing them on the substrate that often, they are usually on my LR.

MY LTA has disappeared into my LR. I think it might be splitting.

Yeah, mine move around and lot and frustrated me. B4 the mushing incident, it was down almost at the bottom of my rockwork. I always wonder how the heck they could get out from those tight situation.
I didn't want to keep the Maroon with the rose b/c I read an article saying that the gut content of some Maroon Clown fish contain the tentacles of the bubble tip. Does your Maroon nip on your rose?

My tank is 180 gl. I got a pair of maroon clowns with sebae anemone and a pair of saddleback clowns with green carpet anemone from Jason about 2 weeks ago. One pair is on the right side of the tank and the other pair is on the left side. They are all doing fine. They haven't attack any of my fish. My yellow tank didn't like them at first and was trying to attack them. They are getting along just fine now. The clowns always stay with their anemones, and never travel far.

The male maroon found my little rose anemone closed by about a week ago, and it has been going back and forth between the 2 anemones. The female isn't interested in the rose anemone at all. I can't see the rose anemone. I know it is there because the maroon hangs out with the rose more than its sebase anemone, so I don't know if it is biting the rose anemone or not.

I run a 175Watts 10K Metal halide over a 29G. Some bubble tip actually don't like that much light.

BTA'S, especially Rose BTA's come from very deep water. They require actinic 03 VHO's and 20K lamps for long term survival.
Florescent rose BTA's come from as much as 180 feet down where its all blue-blue.

JimD....There were 4 of us that ordered together from Alvin (eBay) - Oceancube (Rudy), Phage in Austin, Fuzz in Austin & me. Rudy's I know has split. Don't know how it is doing now tho.

I do have 440 VHO - and it was aggressively eating silversides. I took it out today & disposed of it. All that was left of it was a ring - no mouth/pedestal. And yes Vinh...there were about 7-8 tenacles last night still rose colored. It never lost its color. And I never handled it with my hands - wore gloves if I touched it.

Barry - I think I was telling you at the last meeting how it had rejected food twice in 2 days. - it only ate twice more since then.

My clowns are still hanging out where the anemone was...what a drag. Kinda feeling like I may not go that same route if this happening to others also. Just glad I was here and able to get it out before it disintegrated. Was gonna go skiing...Glad I didn't.

If your anemone didn't bleach, do you think it has been shredded by your power head? Or got caught bwtn some jagged rock while being pounded by the output blast from a powerhead?

Sherri
Thu, 25th Dec 2003, 12:23 AM
No Vinh...it never came close to any powerhead or my intake...stayed on the rocks and then glass and then sand next to where he was on the glass. It was on the sand that it went bad. Kept close tabs on him.
