I know mostly everybody on here loves maxi-jets so I know you guys can help me out for sure with this one. Right now I have two powersweep 226's @190gph in my 30 gallon and am switching over to maxi-jets. Do they have adjustable flow? And which should I go with? 2 600s or 2 900s?

Yes they have adjustable flow. Go with two 1200's.

Ok cool Tim.
Right now Josh I just have a few polyps, a colt, and a toadstool.

If you want to do lots of sps, i'd go with two 1200's. If you're just doing softies and polyps, a 600 and 900 (or two 900) would probably be more than sufficient.

In my old 45, I had 2 mj1200s, 2 600s, and an iwaki 700gph return pump. That was enough flow to keep things happy! I certainly don't think you'll have too much flow, that's almost impossible, but you'll have to find a way to direct the flow so that there's nothing right in front of the outputs.

K, looks like I'm gonna go with the 1200's.

I also need to put a small pump behind my rocks so I can get some movement back there. I was looking at getting one of those MiniJet pumps since it looks like it'd be pretty compact and could fit back there. Has anyone tried these or should I just go with a small Maxi-jet 400 to put back there?

You can always slow it down, but it is hard to make a pump do more......LOL........ 1200's will do great on leathers also. Leathers love heavy current beleive it or not. They survive in low currents but if you want to see them REALLY open up, hit them with a good current. I'm not saying put a dolphin 3000 right on it, but a couple maxi-1200's should give you a pretty good current, some people would probably say even that isn't enough...... This is just my opinion though. I don't think the price difference is much.

that dolphin 3000 idea sounds pretty good Tim. I think I'm gonna go with that instead :skeezy: haha

k, now a new question. I need to replace the Rio 600 that's on my CPR skimmer after hearing them horror stories in that thread not too long ago. I can replace it with a MJ 900 since they're about the same GPH? Will it fit on the backpack inlet?

The Rio 600 will be fine on your skimmer and actually works better than the Maxi conversion, the stories you read about are mainly centered on the larger Rios. Ive had the same Rio 600 on the Bak Pak in my trigger tank for nearly two years now with no problems.

Glad I didn't end up buying a non-working cpr replacement. Thanks for the heads up guys.
