My favorite blue hermit is stuck in this hole in between my starburst polyps. He has been there for 4 days now and I just tried to gently wedge him out and think I may have only made it worse. Has this ever happened to anyone? I would break the rock, but it has coral growth on it. I have 3 other empty shells in the tank and wonder if he will pop out of that one and grab a new home???

you might wanna try using a small pair of tweezers or better yet maybe askin around to see if anyone has a pair of those surgical "nose pickers". theyre real long and at the end it has a small pair of grips that are opened and closed by a trigger on the other end. ive got a pair id be glad to lend but im away from home til december :( im sure someone else is here that has a pair.

hope it helps, steve

I thought about something like that - I have a pair of needlenose that I was going to break the little ridge that is holding him in. I can probably do it and put that piece somewhere else in the tank and hope it regrows, but it will involve tearing the coral apart.

Here is a pic of my problem...he is wedged in the bottom of the pic and you can see how the coral appears to be "melted" onto the rock.

is that encrusting gorgonia??? if it is i wouldnt worry about it having problems growing back at all! that stuff grew like wildfire in my tank when i had some(thanks erik, it was great stuff!!!) i started to suggest needlenose but then started thinkin that u need to wash em off REALLY well before puttin those badbois in the tank, dont want to get any rust and crud in there to endanger anything.

good luck with whichever u choose! im sure everythin'll turn out fine. what size tank is this? thats a good lookin cabbage leather in the background too :D!

tkake kare, steve

Man I'm glad you replied. These are my first corals ever and I did not know what I had. Someone else mentioned cabbage leather, but I thought these were starburst polyps...I've been messing with them, so right now they appear a tan color, but usually, they are green. Thanks for the help, I'm gonna try to break that little ridge.

Good idea Josh, maybe one more day won't hurt him. I will try that tonight. Thanks!

Xien2000, this is a 125 DAS setup. I just bought this Hamilton 72" light setup from Z28pwr yesterday, and these corals have came to life!

All is great! I scratched up my fingers, but was finally able to wedge him out. Watch him be right back there in the morning! Thought about shoving something in the hole, but found out the hole is actually a long tunnel and coral is growing down on the inside.
