Do crabs pose a threat to clams ?

I had some blue leg hermit crabs that were Vicious little creatures and now I'm considering buying some Red Leg (Scarlet) hermit crabs but wanted to see if they would pose a threat to clams ?

Also will they eat green hair algae like the blue leg?
Live Aquaria's description states that the blue leg eats long hair algae but it doesn't state if the red leg does.

hey jose, well ive had a couple clams in the past along with tons of hermits with no problem, till this day they never get near the clam, so i think it'll be okay, i wish my hermits ate hairalgea, mine wait all day for the brineshrimp!! smart little creatures!!!

I had good luck with my old emeralds eating hair algae. saltwaterfish.com has them 5 for 15.99 right now.

I just picked a good size one(not as big as jims though) up at Aquatek for $8 yesterday. I got two or three bubbles of bubble algae, and they are said to do good with that too, although, I kinda like it, but dont want an outbreak.

There is a difference between red-legged hermits and scarlet reef hermits. I have both in my tank and have been slowly getting rid of the red-legged as they keep killing my snails. The scarlets are much more peaceful and don't pick on anything.
