My 58gallon reef tank has now been up and running a year!

Since I started the tank, I have had an Aqua C Remora skimmer running on it. It used to always pull out lots of junk from the water, but over the past several months it has been pulling out very little. I think my tank has gotten to where it supports itself with all the live rock and critters in it. So last weekend I unplugged the skimmer! Never thought I would get to a point of trying this! :o Well, so far no problems.

My tank has about 80lbs. of live rock and a 5 inch sandbed. There are several types of corals in the tank as well as some pulsing xenia and sargassium algae that grows like crazy. I have hermits, snails, and a peppermint shrimp that do a great job of cleaning up any left over food that my fish don't eat. Fish include a lawnmower blenny, midas blenny, 6-line wrasse, pair of percula clowns, blue/hippo tang, and a beautiful yet honory chocolate tang.

Even though this tank seems to be doing well, I will have a Lifereef VS-24 skimmer on my 75gallon that I am setting up. Always better to be safe than sorry!

Yeah, I'm gonna keep a close eye on it for now. The skimmer is still sitting in the sump so I can plug it back in if I need to. No fuge on the tank as the sump I set up for it wasn't able to support one. The sump I am currently building for a future tank will have a nice fuge built in.
