I found in my tank a tube worm looking deal. It is attached to a rock and is whiteish in color and as it seems to eat it stretches and then retracts. It has all one shape as far as I can tell. If anyone can identify from this please do.

If what you are describing stretches out and then a small "feather-duster" type head pops out, those are usually "peanut worms"...

I have heard they are good for the tank...

Feather dusters are cool. I've found 4 so far that have popped up on store bought live rock.

Nothing has popped up on my base rock, besides some algae for the utrbo snails to eat. I'm thinking a year down the road my tanks will look at as nice as some of the ones I have seen.

It does not appear to be a feather duster I have many of them. It stretches out to hit another portion of the rock as to grab food then retracts again and again ... Then it will seem to be gone. It is on a rock with mushrooms if that makes a difference. It almost looks like something from a SciFi movie.

Pete,

Can you snap a pic of it? Might be easier to identify if we could see it.

I will try but it isnt always out and then I have to hope I capture him in the image. So far it has only been visible in the light.

I looked at the links from Richards post and didnt see it there. The closest thing was the peanut worm but it definitely isnt brown. If it shows its self I will try getting a pic to post.

Yeah, I have several peanut worms in my live rock. However, they usually only come out at night for me, and when I shine a light on them they retract back into the rock. But they look exactly like the one on the link, brown with the feather duster like ends.

And I also think thats the creature thats leaving piles of some sort of brown substance outside the holes.
