I didn't want to bring this up without some sort of proof....

Check the thread on RC (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=201848)

Tetra video on CBS morning show (http://209.51.150.38/~admin529/tetra.wmv) - Right click and Save As!

With a 5 gallon tank, a Tetra Rep. demonstrated on the CBS morning show just how "easy" it is to create your very own "nemo" tank. Without mentioned anything about salinity levels, Carol Huntley Weber from Tetra added a few rocks and decorations as a backdrop prior to adding in 2 clowns and a blue regal tang. In addition to that, a starfish and 2 seahorses were added.

"One of the biggest mistakes commonly made is overstocking your tank,", claims Carol. "The rule of thumb is about 1 inch of fish for every gallon of water."

 And she JUST stuck all that in a 5 Gallon tank!!!

You really have to see the video to believe all the lies she claimed in front of an audience of presumably millions. :(

Yeah I read about this the day the segment aired but have been waiting to see the actual video before I fire off a complaint. The only thing I use of Tetra's is their medicated fish food but that will be the last product I ever buy from them until they sort this mess out. I suggest contacting the German parent company - the Euros are a lot more friendly to environmental issues than most US companies.

I just deleted that video and read on RC that it's not available anymore. I wish I would have kept it.

Josh, look at the first post. Right click and save as. ;)

That clip was amazing! Those guys are so in the wrong and are going to eat it big time! It is amazing to me how so much damage can be done with no possiable way to atone for it.

How stupid was that? I've already witnessed this happening in local stores. This is my favorite qoute off the cbs site
"With the success of the Disney's summer blockbuster film, "Finding Nemo," tropical fish are now finding themselves as the hot new pet. Carol Huntley-Weber of Tetra Fish Products visited The Saturday Early Show to show the ease of owning and maintaining an aquarium."

The ease of maintaining an aquarium, who ever knew it was so easy. maybe we'll doing something wrong and making it harder that it really is.

What a joke. These people have got to be kidding. I haven't heard that much b.s. in a long time. Recently I had to attend a meeting with A tetra rep. He talked about their products and babbled on and on. He tried to demonstrate their new tetra tech filter to us and he couldn't even get it to work. It was the worst presentation I've evr seen. I'll never promote another tetra product after watching the nemo clip

That video is horrible, it just fills me with rage. She just tosses those sea horses in, she should say how hard they are to keep. And a blue tang in a 5 gallon "nemo tank"? I'm sicken by this movie. :o

Anyone able to get us a spot on one of the local news channels? Maybe a quick educational segment on how hard it is to keep marine animals and some good resources to check before you buy.

Okay so we all agree this was very bad and it was but this is the norm for any large company trying to sell there inventory.

And the worst part is I am sure it worked for a short time. They only care for one thing and that is $. Even if our small group no longer buys products from there company it will only be a small dent to the amount of revenue they have created by that hurling commercial they displayed to the public.

What was that old saying buyer beware:(
