filling my 40 gal. w/ water and sand (fianally), and was wondering,
should I put something on tank bottom, eggcrate etc. to distribute weight more evenly when I get the rest of my LR, or should it not matter

(by the way, tank is glass, about 15 1/2" wide, > 36" long

thanks,
andrew :D

fwiw = for what it's worth...

And fwiw, I don't think eggcreate is necessary... although depending on how deep your sand bed is, just be sure to keep the bottom pieces of rock stable and wedged deep enough so there's no future unsettling.

A good trick.. head to Lowes or HD and get some large diameter PVC piping and cut it into small sections that are just long enough that you can place the rock on top of them and they'll be out of view. It's not necessary to go through all that though... but it adds stability. ;)

You can also get some rocks (limestone or similiar) and put it on the bottom for base rock. Sometimes you can find rock that looks just like live rock and given time it will. Sometimes they use good looking base rock for rif-raf in bar ditches in the medians of highways. (but you might get in trouble if you collect to much) Just make sure you rinse them off real good and scrub them with a brush while your rinsing them. This method will also increase the depth of your sand bed.

My tank is bare bottom right now. I put the heavy pieces of LR on the bottom, and light weight rock on top, and hope that they don't fall over and crack my tank.
