After chatting with several members today I got the courage to frag one of my Xenias. At this moment I am a bit nervous because the last thing I want to do is kill any of this great corals. I just thought about it and figured why not. Please any who have done this advice on what to do next? The mother piece retracted is this normal? Will it die? I used some sharp scissors for this and had iodine added to the tank for their support. Please any other info would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,

Fabian (A very concerned Xenia owner)

Just cut it, don't add iodine. You can actually crash your entire tank by adding iodine. Iodine is used in surgery as an anti-bacterial, it disinfects. So, that should be telling you it can kill! Used in VERY small quantities it can be benificial, but not worth the risk. Do your water changes and you will get enough from your salt mix.
Your colony will stay shrunk down for a couple days then should start healing and open back up. Xenia is pretty hard to kill if it likes your tank.
