For all of you that got clams and are on reef central, go to vendor experiences and post something about Jim at TankU. Barry from clams direct is getting some talk, and I feel Jim deserves some recognition for his strides in clam care also. Of course I am a little bias because I am his friend, but I still think Jim does a great job for his customers!

Tim,
Thanks for being a FRIEND! But this is not necessary. Reef keeping is a wonderful hobby. I would rather have friends than customers (well most of the time!) Barry was a customer of mine before he started being a vendor. He even came to Round Rock to visit. He does a good job.
Thanks,
Your friend,
Jim

I know this Jim, but I still feel strongly about the discrimination reef central does. They seem to promote certain people, companies, and people linked to them.

I think he is, but they still have an inside connection. Besides all you have to do is open another account on ReefCentral and your back in under a different name.

Barry (http://www.maast.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB2&file=profile&mo de=viewprofile&u=106) is also a member here after seeing one of my posts at www.thereeftank.com ... although he hasn't been active.

I think part of it has to do with the website. Barry's site has current stock and prices listed which people want when buying on the internet. I'm sure Jim could get just as much buzz going, if not more with a few changes.

I have nothing against Barry, I am sure he cares about his clams. I do find his clam tank "IDEA" very funny. That idea has been thought of a long time ago, and a 45 degree angle is the obvious angle you would build it at. Doesn't take much "prototyping" there. They both have great clams, and I would like to hear what Barry has to say. If he is a member here why doesn't he have anything to say to us? I would like to hear a debate on clams. It can only enhance clam keeping.

Hi Tim and others. Sorry I have not been on this BB much lately as we have been moving and trying to keep things going.

Tim,

Never said that I thought of the 45 degree angle, saw it years ago in Daniel Knops book and have talked with him about this for over a year. As far as prototypes go, had to think about maintaining and cleaning the walls and also the flow of the water as not to have water run over the side as well as other things. The one that Daniel has in his book, page 178 is a closed system and we did not want to do that. Pendant is better and also will not hold heat in. The builder of the tank did not just want to throw a 3 sided tank togeather with a 45 degree angle for viewing , this person also manufactures other reef equipment and had a reputation for quality.

As far as Reef Central goes, I was banned because Jim asked that I post a picture of a Tear drop clams, which I did and they considered that to be a form of a commerical post, even though I paid 200.00 per month to be a sponsor. Normally when being banned they revolk your posting but still able to view the thread, in my case I can not even access the board as they deleted my IP address. So going under another name will not work, SORRY about that :) As far as having connection on RC, LOL, don't think so. Maybe some customers but no one that is connected with RC. Understand Jim was also banned. Joint the crowd friend :)

Jim is a good person and does have some great clams and if I lived there I would buy a few. Jim, remember the one that I did buy from you and all the problems I had trying to get it on the plane in San Antonio.

I will try more often to visit your board.

Regards,

Barry

Barry,
Good to hear from you! O yes I remember the story well! What country where you trying to get into? (CA) How many clams did you buy from me that visit 2,3, or 4? My fellow member of the MOVE-ON club, banned is not a word RC uses. For $200.00 amonth WOW! That is along story in itself becoming a sponsor on the RC board. I will one day tell you about my night mare trying to become one! I wonder if one was to join the $500.00 amonth club would that open the door to be MOVED-IN! You need to visit this club more often. The club members here are AWESOME! The last meeting was great---many donations from some GREAT vendors----hint-hint-next meeting is coming up fast!!!!! I would like to win one to those Clams Direct Tanks or Knop products!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D
Did you see where Adam has started selling clams? Here is the guy I was telling you about over a year ago that I was able to get some mature maximas for and he spawned them!!!!!! They stay alive for 2 months? If anyone can go all the way it would be Adam.
Take care.
Jim

Jim

Think it was 3 and San Antonio inspectors was not about to let me get on that plane till they saw that it was a clam for sure. When they say how BIG it was, they said, "You going to eat that" LOL

I hear that RC is now charging 400.00 min. for sponsorship and up. Pay that much money and can't say anything .

I know all about RC moderators. I have moved on too from starting too much controversy. Glad to hear from you Barry. It is good to see you didn't let my comments slid and voiced yourself! This is certainly the best group in this state as far as I am concerned.

Tim,

The older I get, the more mild I get :) See you live in CP as does my daughter and her family. Miss the cost of living in Texas but not the weather.

Jim,

We would be more than happy to donate some Knop product to your group (club) just let me know where to send some.

Regards,

Barry

I'm just glad to hear from you. I have heard a lot about clams direct (Barry) but never seen anything you have posted. RC really gets on my nerves. Too many experts, at everything. It is hard to even get a straight answer from there with out hearing from ten different "experts" with the "only way"... I'm glad you have joined up here. Does your daughter have a reef tank?

Robin ( daughter) does not , she says she would not have time to take care of it. I know her children would love it. Told her that Jim was right down the road from her and he wouldn't mind doing some water changes from time to time. :)

i don't understand paying $200.00 per month and then banning you or jim from the board. i know that they don't allow commercial post, but if you're one of their good paying sponsors then they shouldn't really complain too much, maybe i'm wrong. now if i'm paying $400.00 dollars everymonth (which i don't know is all that justifiable maybe initially only, sounds like they're making a pretty good profit) i would think i would be able to post just about whatever i want as long as it's in good taste.

For $400.00 per month, I can put a nice 1/2 color add in FAMA ! and there circulation is over 30,000per month so I was told.

Maybe we can split the cost. :)
