Ok 2 rios died in less than a week. I got home tonight and the one in my new 7 gal minibow I was using for circulation crapped out. I took it apart, cleaned it , motor just done died on that thang. I'm sticking with maxijets from now on.

Anyone tried the new aquaglobe powerheads yet ? (not the eheim ones - they are tiny super flow phs)

I bought one of the AquaGlobe AQ-200F powerheads back in December. Here's the thread (http://www.maast.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpBB2&file=viewtopic& t=172&highlight=worlds+smallest+powerhead). I deleted some of the images so yeah they're no longer there but you get the idea.

I've been using it since then on my 7G nano tank. It has a little piece of plastic you can stick in the output to cut back on the flow, I have mine cut down to somewhere around 40% of its full power.

The sticker on it says to clean it weekly but to be honest i've never cleaned it at all yet. It's halfway covered in corralline already too.

My only complaint is the suction cups are entirely too small. There's only 4 of them and I definately need to get them replaced. Sometimes it can go a few weeks without falling... and other times it'll fall a few times in a single day.

If you get one, look for replacement suction cups.

What is RIO (TAAM) going to do about it? NOTHING. They could care less.
These pumps have been crapping out for a couple years now. They work OK in freshwater, but not salt.

Chris where did you get yours from? I saw someone selling on ebay that had relatively good feedback. Also some guy on RC bought from www.petking.net. As cheap as they are I am suspect it's another rio type cheap works for a bit then craters. Regardless I may buy one to try it.

And if there is one thing I have learned since getting back into fishkeeping this past year - buy the best you can afford and do your research!!! Gah I hate buying crappy stuff but I guess I'm a sucker for a good deal sometimes.

Well the AquaGlobe AQ-X00F models claim to fame is their small size. Quality seems pretty good other than the small suction cups.

If you check that thread I posted about above you can find the guys email address I bought it from. His name is Dave... he's a regular at the nano-reef.com forums.

The seals have been failing on rio's causing them to short and burn out... be careful taking the powerheads out of the water if you think something's wrong with it...always unplug electrical devices before taking them out of your tank...ziggy's rio 600 shocked him the other day.

Oh man it's not that ESPI guy is it? Hopefully he's easier to buy stuff from than read his lony posts. I'll check it out though since that's one of my favorite haunts.

No ESPI is funny just I can never understand if hes serious, trying to make a point or plain nuts. I'll drop him an email and see if I can get a few of the micro ones.
