My lawnmower blenny seems to have a gill injury or something. To me it looks like there is a chunk out of his skin covering the gills, actually. The curve is not like it normally is and while he breathes you can see the gill on that side much better than usual. Every time that the cleaner shrimp gets any where near him he lifts his gill flap and lets the cleaning happen.

What could or would have done this? Does one of the bacteria do this or maybe a critter? There does not seem to be any other injuries on him indicative of a fight or anything....

Hey MAT... Maybe your Xenia chomped on him... Or, since your fish aren't fighting like you thought they should, maybe they're just pickin' on him to give you something to worry about...

Thought I would give you a smart a** reply since noone else will...

Good luck getting a medical opinion....

The mantis is/was in the other tank, no tank connection. I hope there is not another one in that tank.

If the blenny is in good shape i.e. still attempting to eat etc.. I would give him a brief fresh water dip. I have seen mine snag himself on a sharp piece of base rock while eating and tear open a small wound.. If the cleaner shrimp is staying in that area he may have an infection.. Bacteria or fungus.....

Yup. I am going to keep breeding the mantis shrimp and passing them along to every one of the MAAST members until everyones tank is gone! Hiding them in the macro while they are barely visible to naked eye was a great idea, huh????
