I've got a baby boy!!!!!!!!!

Well, I've got a bunch of babies, so I'm sure at least one of them is a boy. I have a proven mated pair of Bangaii Cardinals, I was just walking around and saw my Male Bangaii Cardinal open his mouth up. Holly Molly. There was a bunch of good sized Bangaii babies inside his mouth. I wasn't able to find a camera to take any picture. Now the camera is sitting right next to the tank. I haven't seen the Male Bangaii eat in awhile, so I hope he is not too hungry. I could get an urchin for the baby to hide in, but I don't think I'm going to get it. Too many SPS frags laying around for the Urchin to knock over.

Vinh, you can make a 'fake' urchin which will work jsut as well. Stick some popsicle sticks in a ball of foam and secure near bottom. They should hang out near there.

did you happen to know they were going to bred or was it totally by accident. how long did you have them together as a pair?

looks like chris might have to make another section in the forum for captive breeding purposes. i know there's some people out there breeding sea horses maybe even clowns willing to share there info. or experiences.

I had some white packing foam, but I just dump it in the trash. I have some plastic tootpick. But does it matter if the foam and toothpicks are white ( long spine urchin are black.) I don't know if I can keep the foam secure down in the bottom of the tank for long. I probably stick it upside down on a rock.

Maybe the next batch, I think this batch will probably turn into fish food. I've got too many other fish swimming around, hunting for food. Hopefully your tank will finish cycling and settle in by then.

Ed Hammer bought this from Aquatek in Austin. They paired it up for him. Then he had some babies in his tank. I bought it from him last December. He told me it was a proven mated pair. After I got it from him. I told him that if it indeed was a mated pair, it's going through a divorce. After all, the both of them were swimming around on the opposite corner of the tank. After a few weeks of them being apart. I saw finally one of them just starting to shake his body and fins continually in a ritual dancing manners. I think the male just kind of ignore it. Other then the male not eating, I didn't think much of it at all. I only found out tonight.

I've had several other Bangaii B4, they were wild caught and hard to feed. In fact, I ordered two Bangaii online last December. They both died off after about two weeks. The wild caught one were just picky about the food. They would bite, then spit most of the food out. That, or they were too slow to get food compare to my other fishes in the tank.

Actually Vinh, just use that aquastick you got from me. Make a small ball of it, and stick toothpicks in it. The color shouldn't matter too much. I never bothered with this. But they will also hide in larger acro colonies as well.
They didn't pair them up for me. I was left to my own for that part. So I picked some YOUNG ones that looked like they had the right shape. Funny thing, I actually thought the male was a female, and the other way around for the female. Until the male stopped eating and I saw the babies it was carrying. Of course that was a while after I got them, as they were pretty young then.

I wonder how biodegrable the spine from the long spine urchin are. I could use the Marine Epoxy to make a ball on the LR. Then stick real urchin spine on the epoxy. Is the spine alive, or dead? I can go to the LFS tomorrow, and ask him if he'll sell just the spine for half price. :-o I'll clip the spine from the urchin, and stick it on the rock.

But my foxface might have trouble with that, he sleep walk. He might end up with spine sticking out of his body in the morning.


But they will also hide in larger acro colonies as well.

All my acro colony have commensal crab inside them. Will the crab bother the babies? The bangaii is swimming close to the bottom, and all the acro colonies are on top. The father better release the babies at night.
