Default HELP ! Moving a 210 From Houston to San Antonio IDEAS ?

Hey Everyone I'm starting this thread in hopes of anyones helpful tips, comments, suggestions and/or past experiences.

I had hoped to purchase Bernies 240 from Chris but Tiny beat me to the punch lol
    Congrats Tiny ;-)

So the alternative route is to make a purchase in Houston of a used 210. I've already had numerous conversations with the party in Houston whom is selling this tank and for the price everything seems Flawless. However I've never Transported a tank of this size or even at such a long distance from Houston.

Options thought up were a Leaf Spring Trailer with a lot of Memory Pad and Board Insulation or a Uhaul with a Matress and straps. These ideas seem very Primitive and I don't believe they will work.

So if y'all can help aid me in any suggestions for safe transport and delivery of this Aquarium to our town please lay it on me

    Thanks James

We moved my 200 in a truckbed, tank stand and canopy. We just used moving blankets and come-alongs to hold it all together.

    Erik,

At what speeds and distance were you traveling with the tank ? My concern is the spee, pot holes and bridge ways

My best friend was driving and he drives like crap. He drives all day for a living, so he speeds and scared me the whole ride. He used less come alongs that I had wanted, and kept telling me to stop worrying about it. We travelled from Altons which is out a good ways out IH10, and had no issues. The only thing I suggest is to use cardboard boxes around the corners where the comealongs rub to ensure they dont get sliced. It was a piece of cake. Just be weary of potholes while you are in town, and chill till you hit the highway

Sweet ! Your friend must not have been the one forking out the Money for the Tank rite ? Lol and sounds like I'm gonna need to borrow a long bed truck mine is a short bed and I don't believe it will do. The stand is around 9 ft Long so I'm thinking it might be hanging off just a bit. Maybe the tank in the bed of the truck and a trailer to haul the stand ? Lots of tie downs and cardboard as well as moving blankets ?

We just kinda caddy cornered the tank and stand side by side and put the canopy on top of the stand. Long bed would be easier.

What Erik said. I've unfortunately moved way too many tanks from Austin to as far as Colorado (don't ask) and for the most part I put them in the back of the truck with blankets up to the cabin and on the side with the stand blocking it in to avoid it moving and drive close to the speed limit and go really slow on speed bumps. For larger tanks I rent an enclosed UHAUL trailer.

Wow Jose ! Colorado ? Whoo what a nail biting drive that must be. And yea I'm begining to feel a bit more comfortable with the idea of moving blankets and a uhaul as well as crusing at granny speeds. Thanks for your input guys ;-)

Hearing that from you and Jose has put my mind at ease. A 240 from Dallas ! Ok Houston is looking a lot better now. Guess a stop @ Lowes for some 3/4" Insulation will be needed before making this Trip. Did you use anything to strap it down ? Or was it loose and only supported by weight ?
