I’ve been on Maast for about 18 years and have had a great time and met many friends. I’m not on Facebook although it seems that most of the activity happens their as opposed to this forum. What I’d like to know is when does someone actually pull the plug on this site. I’ll be sad to see it happen but their is very little traffic here anymore and eventually you have to ask yourself what’s the point of having a site that sees very minimal traffic.

The ARC forum seems to be far more active which is odd considering their demographic.

Just trying to get some actual discussion on here to see what others think. Speak up old timers!

I was wondering the same thing. I would like it to come back but there's no action.

I feel everyone's pain and with Covid our number one fund raiser has taken a hit for two years running. For me personally my tanks along with posting on here and two other sites have taken a back seat in my life. I miss the meetings at Chesters the most

I agree with you Alton, all the family friendly club meetings, back yard bbq's, diy classes etc etc.

Sadly if the BOD does not adapt to the fast changing social network platform i do see this site shutting down, i have a huge following on fb along with a few groups i help Admin.

I have noticed a few bod members on fb helping to plug maast but if ppl are having to switch to the site to use it, i just dont see it working out long term.

Sorry for the long rant, just giving my opinion.

I don't think we'll ever see the site pick up to where it was before - b/c FB and other social platforms are too accessible to people. Plus kids these days don't even know what forums are.

As far as the site, I am hosting it on one of my servers so there is no cost associated with it running. My cost is very minimal and I don't mind hosting it to preserve the past content and keep it around for memberships, etc.

Pretty quiet around these parts. Most of the action happens on Facebook now.

Looked up MAAST but it was a page. Is there an official group?

I'm actually thinking about getting out. I've been keeping reef tanks for over 50 years (yes!), and this tank is driving me/us nuts. Really, I just need to tear it down to nothing, and restart it. But I have a few fish and some anemones to keep in the meantime. I'd love to see MAAST come back. Might drive some more interest on my part.

For what it's worth, I can't get to FB. I only miss it a little. My account was hacked months ago, and FB won't give it back to me. Believe me, I've tried everything. Including new FB accounts that are anonymous. They still found me and deleted the accounts. Don't know how, but they did. In any case, FB doesn't work any where near as well as forums do.

And thanks for hanging around Alton.

Pull the plug? No, this site is a valuable resource for budding reefers and old seasoned folks as well.

Forums are picking back up, now that the fascination with FB is over with.

I'm BACK!!! Tore the tank down, put my remaining "stuff" into a 29, and threw the 215 back together in October. Got fish into it right before we left for 5 weeks for French Polynesia (Tahiti). I took over 4000 underwater pictures. Now I'm looking to restock. Hmm.

P.S. Like many, I'm not on FB anymore. So, if the Club is going to do just FB, well, that doesn't work for me. Sorry.

This site was always full of life. I have been thinking about getting back into the swing of things now that my kids have grown a bit more and I don’t have to be hovering over them as much.

Hi guys, great to see all the familiar folks. Just wanted to say a big thank you to Robert Rrasco and everyone else keeping this place around and continuing to keep this site up as a resource and the historical content. Mike and I don’t do FB either.

Bill, how about just a couple of photos? Either the tank revamp or the Tahiti trip! Sounds amazing.

We got out of the hobby and gave up our tanks to spend a year working in Europe. Back home again and really miss the reef keeping (the tank chores, not so much). Miss our MAAST friends!

Dude, forums are the best place on the net to get quality information. The MAAST fb group does not even remotely compare to the usability and quality of this forum software. It's a real bummer that forums have fell out of fashion. I think what REALLY killed ARC and the likes is charging people for membership to post for sale items. Self imposed death sentence.

Here comes my once a year post years ago we had meeting at public places and peoples homes. Then it became a once a year at the aquarium on Bandera road until Covid. I gave the team an idea to bring the website up to date like R2R and they voted to not spend the money. Our Treasurer is honest so I know the money is still in the bank. What is the future? Not sure I will come on here ever once in a while and check out new post but they always about two months apart

Here is one if anyone post here in this thread in the next 24 hours I will give them two heads of Scuba Steveo Frogspawn for free! its 2:29 pm on Wednesday the 7th of December 2022. Ready get set go

I'm really more interested in trading/gifting corals. I traded and donated a lot back in the day. Where are people doing that now? I thought this was the best and most sustainable way. Can anyone point me in right direction?
