Justin/Ty and plenty of others will probably chime in; but sitting through the breakfast on Saturday, it sounded like some of there newer gadgets would only work on the newest model? What I have seen is the new takes up less space since some of the items are built in?

When the new model came out, it had all kinds of issues with connectivity, which they sourced to a hardware issue. After that, I haven't really heard of any issues with the newer model.

Alton is correct, a lot of connections are built in so you won't need to buy a separate module for some of the items. Also, it can track power usage through the new power bars. Lastly, Neptune is kind of pulling a jerk move with this one but the new alk, Mg, Ca auto checker and is only compatible with the new Apex. They gave some BS answer about computing power of the old one not being sufficient which is malarkey to me but if you ever want to buy that auto checker, you'll need the new one.

So really it's down to your budget and what you desire. If you're never going to use the auto checker and want to save money, buy the classic. If you want to future proof yourself and want all the newest gadgets, get the new one.

I'm a sucker for upgrading tanks, but the better advice would be Apex.

I agree. An apex on an already really nice tank would take it to the next level.

I was hoping for a labor day sale, i missed the MACNA sale. I like the newer unit over the classic, but $800!

Yeah it's going to be a while before you see another Neptune sale. They almost never discount their products

Your best bet is to save up to get the newer one. I personally am not a fan of the new one but that is because of the aesthetics of it and the price. As to what Ty and Alton mentioned, the new system has a lot more items to monitor like power consumption and has a built in wifi setup. Other than the look and feel, its pretty much the same with supposedly a stronger brain to process the new modules like the Trident. As far as I know, everything works with the classic except for the new Trident and possibly the new COR pumps as well.

In the long run, its best to just upgrade the system to the new one. I have 2 classics and I will eventually upgrade my DT to the new system. I just need to raise some funds and sell corals to get there.
