I have a Coleman powemate 2500 that is at least 10 years old. I got the engine to turnover but only 60 of the 120 volts coming out of the outlets. Maybe a new rotor or diodes needed. I only have it for the tank when power out for many hours. Should I try to fix or sell as is? Do you keep a generator for tank pumps only?

The old generator for backing up our aquariums has been replaced with invertor generators. Since we use equipment now that is so expensive it is better to have something that produces cleaner/safer energy.

It is probably worth it if you can find someone to to give you a quote to fix it but if not I would replace it.
I almost for got to answer your last question, I have two brothers who have generators that I can borrow when in need. The problem is in 26 years of having a saltwater aquarium, I have only had the need of a generator twice. We really do not lose power very often here in SA. Something like the following may work better?

Thanks, I have not used it much either in Comal where we have PEC and underground power lines. I like the power inverter idea and assume just hook up a vehicle battery to it not necessarily the battery in a vehicle but a spare. What about UPC backup batteries and keep charged then it could provide power for a few hours with two return pumps

The UPC - UPS systems are not made for motors. You can run a small power head for a while on one, that is about it.

Look towards the bottom at the chart 100 watts for 60 minutes and it is like $327.00. For that kind of money you can buy the invertor, trickle charger and deep cycle boat battery.

I am going with the northern tool converter and one of their batteries. I have battery chargers so good to go. Thanks
