Hello,

I am excited to get a thread up here. I have one on ARC but San Antonio is much easier to reach out to for supplies and help. I have been to many events through this club at the Aquarium and they are always awesome and worth going. I like the energy the club is putting off at those events.

So a long story short I am currently in a 300g AGE (Dallas made) 96x30x24. It has a center overflow with the outflow for the returns cut into the weir. Tank is sitting on a custom powder coated steel frame built as well by AGE. The sump I had made local at The Salty-fish through Terry. 6 weeks later I have exactly what I wanted for my sump. I return water with an Vectra L1, does the job, very quite. The return shoots through an oceans motions 4 way before heading back up to the tank. I don't rely on the return water for flow but the OM helps with the randomness I like. Lighting is a mix. I have a Hamilton 60" 2 X 250W MH and 2 X 80W fluorescents. In between the metal halides are 3 AI Prime HDs. The next 36 inches of the tank gets an 8 bulb ATI sun power. Mainly 4 blue with 3 coral and 1 actinic. Flow is taken care of by 2 of the new Gyre 280's, facing each other from both end. Plenty of flow.

Most of the coral that made it from my move from the old tank are doing good. Good color and mainly acros and montis. I am in need of some monti's so if you have some let me know.

Getting sump plumbed, wall built , and this is just inspiration.

Thanks and I will add more pics as we go. I look forward to meeting some reefers and seeing some awesome tanks.

Liking the look, and really liking the half fish room plan. When I had my inwall tank, I used a window unit ac to pull humidity and keep fresh air in. The skimmer worked like a charm with the fresh O2 provided. What fish are you planning to stock

I love the size of this tank. And I always love seeing angels in a tank.

Thank you Alton. The tank size is perfect for me, lots of room.

I do like the angels, the first time I saw a blue face I knew I would get one. They graze right along side the tangs, it is pretty cool.

I am sure one day I will regret the angels for eating things but so far they have only went after a couple of acans. I keep them pretty well fed and I am hoping that will be enough but you never know. I really like having a clam and RBTA in the tank because they are good indicators of the health of the tank, IMO. The Derasa clam was $35 so it wouldn't be financially devastating. I have become very fond of the clam so if/when it happens I will probably catch the angels and relocate them and then get 3 more clams.

Thanks Zack!

Thanks everyone. I am excited to see it develop.

I finally got around to getting some shots of the sump and fish room. I just ask that you keep in mind that cord management is still underway. lol.

First one is full shot of fish room.

So my sump theory is pretty basic I think, even though the mounds of cords would tell you different :).

The first chamber is just 2 7" socks that I pull every three days if they are in. Some days I don't use them, it really depends on how the tank looks. The return is full of pineapple sponges, it is really awesome how many there are.

The second chamber holds some live rock and 3 marine pure blocks (4x4X8). The lights are rarely on in the sump so it seems to act as a kind of cryptic fuge. There are tons of sponges and feather dusters down in there. There are also 3 small hermits. I just put in some larger shells for them so it looks like more. I let detritus settle here and decompose for the most part, I have not cleaned it since the tank has been up. Detritus can only decompose and release basic compounds like nitrates and phosphates for so long and then it becomes inert, at least that is my understanding.

The third chamber is for skimming and passive carbon.

The fourth chamber is the return. Thats where the cord mess begins. haha.

I run 2 reactors, one for calcium and one for zeolite rocks.

I also run some filter floss in the baffles to help polish the water, which is difficult with a bare-bottom tank and lots of tangs that eat and poo all day long. There are always bits and pieces of something in the water and the only way to make it look really clean is aggressive mechanical filtration. I don't usually run the socks, skimmer and filter floss at the same time because it strips the water of nutrients quickly so I mix how I use them or if I use them at all. I do keep the skimmer on all the time so its more the socks and filter floss.

Feel free to ask questions if I didn't explain something. Thanks!
