My bare-bottom QT is taking forever to cycle. Well, maybe not forever but longer than I'd like by trying to do a fishless cycle. I was wondering if it would be a smart idea to obtain some filter media from a mature tank to possibly speed up the process? If so, is there someone in the San Antonio area that I can make a deal with?

You can always do some bacteria in a bottle as well.

That's what I started with...Dr. Tim's. I'm in week three with 0 nitrites and ammonia staying at the same level. PH is 8.2 and I'm keeping the temp high at 80 degrees. I'm using a HOB filter with a sponge and bio-balls. I have three pieces of PVC elbows in the tank, otherwise it's bare. I know it takes time; I'm just thinking of ways to shorten it.

Ah, I see. Yeah, some seeded rock, filter sponge, or even a scoop of sand left in a cup would possibly help. I'd hook you up but I'm in Austin.

Ammonia has been holding at 2.0 steady using a Red Sea test kit.
