I have a 125g reef that has been setup for two years now with a 35 gal sump. I might be worrying too much but I noticed the tank temp being 84 right now. I turned off the heater that was not on just in case. I did place ice in the sump that lowered it to 83.3 then back up to 84. Inside the house it is 78 so not sure what is going on. I checked the pumps and not running hot and my three kessil A160s are not putting that much heat out either. Should I look at a chiller? All the livestock look fine and no other issues. The water does not feel that warm also. Thanks for your thoughts.

I keep my house around 70-2 and my tanks still run about 76-78 with the occasional 79-80. The pumps produce some heat which is absorbed into the water. I do not know if the lights could ever heat a tank... I would be curious if they could.

Is your tank enclosed with a lid? in the wall?

No, I have the top and back open. I let the Nest run the house but we do not keep it warmer than 79 in the summer. I might have had it this warm last year but did not notice or bother me like now

How accurate is your thermometer?

I bought two new ones today, old school and digital and matching my lifeguard big temp.

Perfect, just wanted to confirm. Have you considered running a fan over your sump or display? I've had great luck with that, granted you'll be topping off more.

Are you running a internal pump for the return? If so switching to an external like Pan World should help out by two degrees. A chiller will just add additional heat to the room, plus electric bill. Also check your skimmer pump, if it is drawing more watts than listed, that will be additional heat also.

All internal pumps and I had a fan with four individual propellers and found three not working. I also have two tunze fans on top facing the lights that are suspended eight inches above water surface. I moved them done to face water and put a small house fan over sump. I have ordered a six propeller fan for sump and an singular icecap for either sump or on top. The temp this morning was 81.9. I am out of town for a few days so left a floor fan on facing the tank. Thanks
