One of my young females started holding her tail backwards and would only hitch using the upper portion of her tail, as of two days ago. When she would swim down to the bottom of the tank she would hold it up to prevent it from touching the bottom of the tank. This is typically a clear indication of a bacterial infection. She was still actively feeding and moving around. Yesterday I moved her to a QT and began treatment with Furan-2 both as a bath and gut loading ABS with Furan-2 and ascorbyl palmitate (ABS convert this to vitamin C). Today she is using the tip of her tail as a hold fast while she is hunting and hitching with her tail wrapped around the artificial hitches. I am transferring her every 24 hours to a new sterile QT with fresh salt mix and antibiotics. This is the first time in 4 1/2 years I have used antibiotics on a seahorse. I am very allergic to Furan-2 and have to glove up and wear a mask when using it. Is there anything else that might have a similar efficacy with out the allergic reaction.
